How does consecutive interpreting work?<\/h2>\n

Consecutive interpreting is preferred by many small organizations that do not require extra equipment, such as in-house training, hospitals, business meetings, inquiries and hearings, television programs, interviews and political meetings. Unlike simultaneous interpreting, consecutive interpreting does not require interpreter booths or sound systems. During a consecutive interpreting session, usually preferred for relatively small groups, the speaker speaks for a while whilst the interpreter takes notes. Then, the speaker pauses to let the interpreter translate what has been said.<\/p>\n

Since there is no room for retrospective corrections in consecutive interpreting, professional consecutive interpreters who are trained in this field and have a command of both the language and the terminology should be preferred.<\/p>\n
