What is remote interpreting?
Due to the new conditions that make remote work mandatory, international meetings, interviews and events previously held face to face have now largely been replaced by online meetings and web conferences. In these meetings where participants speaking different languages come together, the demand is increasing for remote interpreting services to ensure smooth communication, and the importance of working with companies that offer professional interpreting services is becoming increasingly vital.

How does remote interpreting work?
These days advanced communication technologies allow participants from all over the world to gather online and hold meetings, symposiums, interviews, and conferences on any topic over the internet. These events, where speakers and listeners who are usually physically present in different environments, come together online via special software and applications that enable online meetings with large participants. When a need arises for remote interpreting for these events, the interpreter can participate in the meeting as a participant or as an interpreter, and provide remote simultaneous interpreting or remote consecutive interpreting services within the means provided by the meeting’s platform.
When evaluated in terms of interpretation practices, it can be said that there is no major difference between simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting being performed remotely, online or in the same environment with the participants. However, with online simultaneous interpreting, technical equipment such as interpreting booths and sound systems are replaced by software and applications that support simultaneous interpreting. The professional conference interpreter who is assigned for remote interpreting attends the event as an interpreter via their previously arranged invitation link. The interpreter listens to what is being said in the source language and instantly translates it into the desired target language in real-time. Participants can listen to the interpretation directly from the interpreter, preferably by muting the speaker. In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter interprets the entire message in the target language whenever the speaker pauses. Since the interpreting process is not instantaneous, speakers, interpreters and listeners can attend the meeting on the same audio channel.

Is any special equipment required for online interpreting?
There is no need for special equipment for remote consecutive interpreting, where the speaker and the interpreter speak in turn. This allows you to minimize your equipment costs and eliminate special requirements for software. While simultaneous interpreting requires special equipment for listeners and interpreters, remote simultaneous interpreting eliminates these requirements.
